Have you ever heard of the Ecological Footprint? It is a measure, developed by scientist Mathis, which calculates your individual impact, or ‘footprint’ on the earth. It does this by working out what resources you use, compared to what the earth can actually support. On average, most people in western countries are individually using many more resources than the earth can supply. Since we have only one earth, this can only continue for a very short length of time. This tool is a great way for you to find out where YOU can reduce your footprint and be a sustainable user of the earth.

To calculate your own ecological footprint (takes about 2 minutes) and to see what you can do to reduce yours (if you need to!) go to the following Victorian Environvironment Protection Web Site link: http://www.epa.vic.gov.au/ecologicalfootprint/default.asp

Plenty Valley Montessori School is committed to reducing our ecological footprint by recycling wherever possible. Water tanks are being installed thanks to the green voucher scheme. Our environment committee works hard towards making us a more ecologically aware and sustainable school. A key focus will be power consumption in the school once the water tanks are installed.
